A few specific fixes for peterreevesjewellery.co.uk

Peter Reeves Jewellery · Plymouth · website rebuild

I rebuild small-business websites in my spare time when I can see they are leaving commissions on the table. Three things stood out on the live site when I pulled it up on a phone over a coffee, starting with a red browser warning before the first ring even loaded. Three findings below, then a working rebuild you can click through.

Three findings, in the order I noticed them

What the live site is hiding that the rebuild surfaces.

Read on a Pixel 7 on a single-bar 4G connection in central Plymouth, 18 May 2026. The findings are specific, the fixes are in the /preview.

01

The HTTPS version of the site triggers a red browser warning before the first piece of jewellery loads.

What I saw
Type peterreevesjewellery.co.uk into Chrome or Safari and the browser blocks the page with a Your connection is not private interstitial. The SSL certificate served on the apex and the www host is for *.secure-secure.co.uk, a shared wildcard issued by PerfectSSL to Fasthosts hosting. A first-time visitor who clicks a Google result or types the domain has to dismiss a red security screen before they reach the workshop. Many will not.
What the rebuild does
After rebuild: a static site on Vercel's edge network with a proper certificate issued for peterreevesjewellery.co.uk and the www subdomain by Let's Encrypt, auto-renewing. HTTPS becomes the default, the http:// version 301s to https://, and the interstitial is gone. DNS cutover is part of the build.
02

The single best photo on the site, Pete at the bench in his head loupe, ships at 1.66 MB and is uncaptioned.

What I saw
The homepage hero is a Canon EOS 6D portrait of Pete at his workbench wearing a flipped-up head loupe, smiling down at a small silver piece. It is the strongest single-maker asset on the entire site. It ships straight from the camera at 2463 by 1642 pixels, 1.66 MB, with no loading=lazy, no srcset, no width or height, and crucially no caption identifying him as the maker. A visitor on a phone over 4G watches a 2-second white screen while the photo arrives, and even then never reads who they are looking at.
What the rebuild does
After rebuild: the same photo, recompressed to roughly 220 KB at 1600 wide with a 480-wide mobile srcset, preloaded as the LCP image, with explicit width and height to lock layout. A caption underneath names Pete and the bench at Flameworks. Mobile LCP drops from above three seconds to under one and a half, and the photo finally introduces the maker.
03

No LocalBusiness schema, no sitemap, and the share preview for every page is a 404 URL with a missing slash.

What I saw
The site ships no JSON-LD of any kind, no sitemap.xml (404), no robots.txt (404), and no Google Business Profile surfaces in search. The Open Graph image set on the Contact and Gallery pages is peterreevesjewellery.co.ukassets/img/PR-MAIN.jpg, missing the slash between .co.uk and assets/. Forward the Contact URL to a friend on WhatsApp or paste it into iMessage and the unfurl is blank because the og:image is a 404 and the file does not exist. The homepage uses the un-resized 1.66 MB hero as its share preview, which most messaging apps refuse to load.
What the rebuild does
After rebuild: full LocalBusiness JSON-LD with Flameworks address, telephone, email, opening pattern (workshop by appointment), Person schema for Pete, and a FAQPage block. A sitemap.xml and robots.txt at the root. og:image set to a 1200 by 630 share-ready crop of the head-loupe portrait, with a working absolute URL. Every WhatsApp, Slack and iMessage share unfurls with Pete's face and a one-line tagline.

If the proposal lands, reply with two or three 20-minute slots in the next ten days for a video call. I take on three South West builds this quarter, and first confirmed wins the slot. If I do not hear back by 29 May 2026, the proposal site comes down.
